■ Japan (* 3), which has the fourth-largest number of IT engineers in the world, will produce 9th place (34,000 people) in the IT field and 13th place (30,000 people) in STEM-related fields, but eventually Is also on a downward trend.
* 1 Universities including junior colleges (Bachelor's, Master's, Doctoral)
* 2 STEM is education that emphasizes the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
* 3 Reference press release: Human Resources Co., Ltd. "IT engineer report vol.1 looking at data from 92 countries"
This report analyzes 92 countries and regions around the world based on statistical data from the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and each country. For China, equivalent data could not be obtained and is used as a reference value, and details regarding the source are given at the end of this survey.
Number of graduates in the IT field in the world: Summary
■ Number of graduates majoring in IT field, about 1.512 million people
A survey of the number of graduates in the IT field majoring in information and communication technology in 92 countries / regions around the world revealed that the total number of graduates in 74 countries / regions for which data could be confirmed was approximately 1.512 million per year (about 1.512 million per year). Figure ①). That's about 7% of the world's IT engineers, which is about 21.37 million. By region, the Asia-Oceania region has produced 935,000 people, accounting for more than 60% of the world total.
■ Number of graduates majoring in STEM-related fields, approximately 2.378 million annually worldwide
million annually worldwide
In STEM-related fields such as AI (artificial intelligence) and big data analysis, which will be important for the future development of science and technology, the total number of graduates majoring in science, mathematics, statistics, etc. is 74 countries / regions, totaling annually. The number was about 2.378 million (Figure ②). By region, the Asia-Oceania region has produced 1.467 million people.
Number of graduates in the IT field in the world: Country report
■ Number of graduates in the IT field, 1st India, 2nd USA, 3rd Russia, Japan 34,000, 9th
Looking at the number of graduates in the IT field majoring in information and communication technology by country, India (550,000) was ranked first, the United States (148,000) was second, and Russia (93,000) was third. (Figure ③). Although the same data cannot be obtained for China, the number of university graduates in the engineering major was 1.18 million, which is more than double that of India, which is 550,000.
Japan also ranked 9th with 34,000 people. Among other Asian countries, the Philippines (77,000), Myanmar (46,000), Indonesia (39,000), Malaysia (30,000), etc. ranked in the top 10 in 5th place. doing.
■ The number of graduates in the IT field, the highest rate of increase is Armenia with an increase of 183.3%, and Japan is a decrease of 1.4%.
Regarding the number of graduates in the IT field, when we calculated the rate of increase compared to the most recent year when data could be obtained in chronological order (Figure ④), Armenia ranked first with an increase of 183.3%. Hungary was second with an 81.7% increase, and Slovenia was third with a 66.3% increase.
On the other hand, while moving toward the promotion of DX (digital transformation), the number of graduates is decreasing, down 1.4% in Japan, where the shortage of IT human resources is being criticized.
■ Estimating the supply capacity of IT engineers, 1st Myanmar, 2nd Iran, 3rd Philippines
As a reference for looking at the supply and demand balance of IT engineers in each country, the ratio of the number of graduates in the IT field to the number of active IT engineers was calculated, and Myanmar ranked first with 244.4% (Figure ⑤). In Myanmar, about 2.5 times as many IT graduates as active IT engineers are produced annually. Iran (58.3%) came in second, followed by the Philippines (42.9%). Emerging countries with high economic growth are ranked high, and it is thought that these countries are focusing on developing IT human resources for economic development. The higher this number, the more graduates who can become IT engineers have been produced, and it can be inferred that the supply capacity of IT engineers is high.
On the other hand, looking at the G7 member countries, which are called developed countries, Japan is only around 3-4%, except for Italy, which is 0.8%, such as 3.1% in Japan, 3.1% in the United States, and 3.0% in Germany (Figure ⑥).
* Canada is not included in this survey series.
■Number of graduates in STEM-related fields, 1st India, 2nd US, 3rd UK, Japan with 30,000, 13th
Next, looking at the number of graduates majoring in science, mathematics, statistics, etc. in STEM-related fields that will be important for the future development of science and technology by country, India ranked first with 1.137 million (1.137 million). Figure ⑦). India, which has a long history in mathematics education, has produced an overwhelming number of graduates. This was followed by the United States with 281,000 and the United Kingdom with 102,000.
On the other hand, Japan ranked 13th with 30,000 people. Among other Asian countries, Myanmar (82,000) ranked 4th, Bangladesh (41,000) ranked 9th in the top 10, and South Korea ranked 11th (35,000) higher than Japan. Similar data could not be confirmed for China, but for reference, the number of undergraduate graduates of the science major was 256,000.
■ STEM-related graduates, increase rate 1st Denmark, 2nd Ghana, 3rd Costa Rica, Japan decreased
Next, for graduates in STEM-related fields, the rate of increase compared to the most recent year when data was available in chronological order (Figure ⑧) was the largest in Denmark, with an increase of 44.7%. Ghana, Africa, was second with an increase of 42.6%, followed by Costa Rica with an increase of 32.4%.
In Japan, the number decreased by 1.1%, which was the same as that of graduates in the IT field. Only Thailand (up 20.0%) in 10th place was ranked in the top 10 in Asian countries, while the United States was 20th (up 4.2%) and India was 27th (2.6%) in other major countries. Increased).
